Ching Yi Kung Fu - Atlanta
Mark Van Schuyver, PhD, standing next to Ching Yi Kung Fu Association Founder Dr. Her Yue Wong in the photo, has been practicing martial arts since 1974. Shīfu Van Schuyver holds the rank of Black Belt 6th Degree from the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association under Shifu Dr. John Mead and Master Dr. Her Yue Wong, the rank of Black Belt 1st Degree from the United States Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation under Master Romero "Jacare" Cavalcanti, and the rank of Black Sash, Laoshi from the North Georgia Chinese Boxing Academy under Shifu Dr. Tim Pugh.
Mark Van Schuyver owns and operates Ching Yi Kung Fu - Atlanta, an affiliate school of the Ching Yi Kung Fu Association. Ching Yi Kung Fu - Atlanta opened its doors in 2011. The Ching Yi Kung Fu - Atlanta curriculum includes Taiji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan), Xingyi Quan (Hsing I Chuan), Bagua Zhang (Pa Kua Palm), and Tanglang Quan (Northern Praying Mantis Kung Fu).
Van Schuyver is the Founder (Shizu) and Director of the Yellow River Praying Mantis Kung Fu Association. He founded the Association on January 5th, 2016 with help and support of Master Her Yue Wong, Shifu George Lisjak, Shifu Richard Tolson, Shifu Dean Chapman, Shifu Mike Biggie, Laoshi Chris Brazukas, and Shifu Tye Botting. The Yellow River Praying Mantis Kung Fu Association is not a Kung Fu School. The Association was created for the purpose of advancing all styles of Northern Praying Mantis Boxing (Tanglang Quan) through research, knowledge sharing, and peer-based instructor certification.
Mark Van Schuyver is a nonfiction writer specializing in martial arts and other topics. His work has been published in a number of national magazines including Black Belt, Inside Kung Fu, Karate/Kung Fu Illustrated, Karate Illustrated, Fighter International, MA Training, American Karate, Tae Kwon Do Times, American Handgunner, and Inside Karate. He is the author of three books: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Fighting Strategies with co-author Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti; FightingStrategies of Muay Thai with co-author Pedro Solana Villalobos; and, Secrets of Championship Karate with co-author Karyn Turner.
