Bāguà Zhǎng. Translation: Eight Trigram Palm
Bagua Zhang (abbreviated as Bagua, Ba Gua or Pa Kua) is a dynamic art based on the Eight Trigrams and 64 Hexagrams of the Daoist Yi Jing (I Ching, or Book of Changes). Bagua uses circular twisting, turning movements combined with intricate patterns of footwork.
As implied by the name, the primary weapon of Bagua is the open palm instead of the fist. Throws, sweeps, and joint locks abound. Bagua practitioners are known for extraordinary balance and strength.
The style of Bagua Zhang taught at Ching Yi Kung Fu - Atlanta is Xian Tian or “Before Heaven” style (a derivative of Jiang Rong Qiao style).
